Easy Steps to More Energy!

Healthy adrenal glands…something we rarely think about, but our fast-paced lifestyles push these little organs to the limit. Overtaxed by stress, stimulants, sugar and a variety of habits, our body’s energy control centers are easily maxed-out, resulting in fatigue, depression and even weight gain. In a holistic health, wellness and fitness program, awareness one’s lifestyle and its effect on these important hormone regulators is worthy of attention.

The adrenal glands are each no bigger than a walnut and weigh less than a grape. They sit like a tiny pyramid on top of each kidney, their name ‘ad’ and ‘renal’ means ‘over’ or ‘above’ the ‘kidney’. The glands are important control centers for regulation of many of the body’s hormones, either secreting directly or controlling the release of cortisol and adrenaline, DHEA, estrogen, and testosterone, which are essential to ones health, vitality, and overall well-being. The adrenal hormones support and affect every tissue, organ, and gland in your body. Their primary purpose is to enable the body and mind to deal with various forms of stress including injury, disease, and other pressures. The adrenals largely determine the energy response of your body to every change in one’s internal and external environment, in fact, every cell in your body responds to signals from the adrenals.

An estimated 75-80% of Westerners suffer from ‘Adrenal fatigue’ at some point in their lives. Adrenal fatigue is a described as a collection of signs and symptoms classically known as a "syndrome" that results when the adrenal glands function below the necessary level. Signs and symptoms may include severe fatigue, lightheadedness upon standing, depression and irritability, lack of sex drive, exhaustion and general malaise, loss of appetite, food cravings, and dark circles around the eyes. Most commonly associated with intense or prolonged stress, various other situations contribute to adrenal fatigue including life crisis, trauma, lifestyle, and chronic illness. Other factors that contribute to the depletion of adrenal health include certain lifestyle choices such as improper diet, substance abuse, too little or irregular sleep or rest and increased or other on-going life-style pressures.

One of the essential functions of your adrenal glands is to draw all your body’s resources into ‘fight or flight’ mode by increasing the production of adrenaline and various other hormones. When the adrenals are healthy one’s ability to respond to situations appropriately is enhanced. This renewed freedom allows for a whole host of possibilities given a stressful situation. When healthy, your adrenals can instantly increase your heart rate and blood pressure, release energy stores for immediate use, sharpen your senses, slow digestion and various other secondary functions. This function is extremely important in emergency situations – poorly functioning, overtaxed adrenal glands can lessen your ability to deal effectively with crisis situations. Another aspect of healthy adrenals is the ability to endure long periods of physical exertion such as seen in marathon running, swimming, long distance cycling, and similarly, the day to day responsibilities of parenting. When supported by healthy adrenals, one’s natural energy supply is balanced. It is your adrenal glands job to react to stress in a balanced manner so that one’s response is appropriate to the situation and not injurious.

The adrenal glands signal the storage and/or release of carbohydrates and fats, the conversion of fats and proteins into energy, along with the distribution of stored fat on the body. They are involved in blood sugar regulation, cardiovascular function, gastrointestinal function, and in controlling blood pressure. The adrenals are further involved by playing a part in sexual interest and response – so poorly functioning adrenals can really put a damper on things by increasing fat storage on your belly while making you disinterested in the whole process altogether!

Here are a few simple steps to supporting adrenal gland health. Many of these will support your overall wellbeing as well, relieving your body of undue stress, and in turn allowing your adrenals to replenish their stores. First, get an adequate intake of pure, clean water. You needn’t drown yourself with it, but always having a bottle around to sip on can really make a difference. So many body processes require adequate amounts of water – and this is likely more than you think. Further, natural aging and other factors can desensitize your thirst sense, so again, you’ll likely feel better drinking more often than when you only feel thirsty.

Next, and perhaps most difficult for some of us is slowing down the pace of each day, if only for a few moments. It’s quite useful to take a couple of 10 minute breaks where you just let your mind go. If thoughts come up about all your worries and your to do list, let them go. Breathe deeply and relax. Get to a point where you feel you’ve made a change in your mindset, even if only for a little while – this state will naturally flow in your life for at least a little while once you resume your normal activities, and will have a dramatic effect on your adrenals and nervous system. Incorporating regular moderate exercise is extremely helpful as well, making the body much more capable of dealing with stress. For an added bonus, combine these two and real be present when you’re exercising, relaxing your mind while invigorating your body.

As for dietary recommendations, decrease (or preferably eliminate) intake of processed sugars and increase intake of natural earth sugars from root vegetables such as yams, carrots, turnips, and beets. Processed sugars truly poison the body every time they are eaten and causing stress to the system. Sweets are a hard habit to break, but you’ll notice a significant increase in balanced energy when you’re able to reduce their intake. Next, ingest adequate amounts of essential fatty acids. Various sources include fish oils, evening primrose oil, borage oil, hemp oil, coconut oil, and flax oils. Research which sources are best for your needs. Essential fats are precursors to many hormones in the body and will support your overall well-being. Finally, do your best to cut out caffeine from all sources. Even green tea, which is wonderful for you in moderation, can upset sleep patterns and add pressure to an already stressful lifestyle. Coffee is high in other stimulant compounds which seem to truly aggravate those already in tense situations, and cola and so-called ‘energy’ drinks may be the worst contributors to adrenal fatigue of all with their combination of processed sugars and refined caffeine.

As for some soothing treatments, taking time for baths using Epsom salts or apple cider vinegar (a tablespoon of either is sufficient) will help to pull out fatigue and ‘acidity’ from the your mind and body. Light a candle, read a book or simply soak in the warm water imaging your worries and stress washing away as you renew, strengthen, and ‘purify’ your energy. Consider adding a few drops of pure Lavender essential oil to your bath and allow the relaxing aroma to help you relax and refresh. A favorite essential oil bath blend: 4 drops Lavender essential oil, 1 drop Rose essential oil. Rose oil is often used for the decreasing stress and depression, while Lavender has a calming and mood lifting effect.

You may also use an essential oil blend that is said to replenish the adrenal glands without stimulation. Mix one ounce hazelnut oil plus 50 drops each of Black Spruce and Pine essential oils. Apply regularly to the kidney/adrenal area for a week or two to help support glandular function – and you’ll smell great too!

Finally, and perhaps most importantly, do what you can to improve your sleep routine. Getting to bed before 10pm is crucial – the hours between 10 and 12 are thought to be extremely important in rejuvenation. Try finishing your last meal as early as possible in the evening to get better rest, so the body is not spending as much effort digesting your dinner as it is replenishing all your other vital resources. Herbal sleep formulas are effective for many people, and are non-habit forming as some prescription medicines can be. Also, studies have shown that the aroma of certain essential oils in the room can have a dramatic effect on sleep quality – an easy way to experiment is to sprinkle a few drops of lavender essential oil on your comforter before retiring (be sparing, too much can actually be stimulating!)

While the steps addressing lifestyle changes may seem difficult, if you’ve been suffering from adrenal fatigue, they’re certainly worth making an effort at. Properly functioning adrenals are a must for getting the most out of life, and supporting them is essential in any natural health, wellness and fitness program.

The Wonders Of Aromatherapy

The Wonders Of Aromatherapy

Aromatherapy. This is just one of those $10,000 words retailers made up just to make a buck, right?
They want you to believe if you smell this it will calm you down. If you light this candle you will light his fire and have an unforgettable evening of love and romance. Every where you look there are candles, oils, lotions, potions, incense and sprays all claiming to lift your spirits and be good for your health.
This all sounds like the traveling salesman of old. Go into town, sell a wagon load of goods, and get out of town before the townspeople figure out they have been scammed. Unfortunately there are a number of businesses selling synthetic oils calling them aromatherapy. This leads to distrust and scepticism in the entire industry.

Not Junk Science: True aromatherapy is not a bunch of nonsense. There is much more to aromatherapy than meets the nose. Science has now confirmed what men and women have practiced for centuries. Scents, indeed have the ability to promote good physical, mental and spiritual health.

The Wonders of Aromatherapy: Have you ever been down in the dumps? You then smell a bouquet of flowers or someone peeling an orange. Moments later you realize your feeling better. This is the basis on which aromatherapy works. In essence, aromatherapy is a natural healing art that is gentle and non-invasive. The scent of essential oils are used to promote general well being. True essential oils do have medicinal properties. Just smelling an essential oil can uplift your spirit and change your feelings and outlook in a positive manner.

Portable: Aromatherapy has the ability to generate an almost instant sense of joy and peace. It also aids in stimulating your imagination. Unlike other therapies such as western medicine and acupuncture, aromatherapy is non-invasive. No pills to swallow and no needles to poke you. With your basic survival kit of essential oils in hand you can go anywhere. If ever a stressful or anxious situation occurs, you will have just the right essential oil right under your nose.

New Age Talk: New age hype has probably done more to hurt the art of aromatherapy than help. It has given way to the unscrupulous manufacturers of synthetics to pedal their wares as aromatherapy. These synthetics may have a nice smell but have no therapeutic value. Aromatherapy is not a warm fuzzy, touchy feely practice. Quite the contrary. Aromatherapy is a science. This science is called psychoneuroimmunology. Now that is a $10,000 word.
Psychoneuroimmunology is the study of how positive and negative experiences effect the immune system and emotions. This science has confirmed that gentle massage and breathing pleasant aromas can strengthen the Immune system. At the other end of the spectrum unhappiness, the lack of touch or breathing stale air can lower your bodies resistance to sickness and disease.
By incorporating true aromatherapy into your daily routine you can help boost your immune system giving you a more positive outlook on life.

Holistic Medicine: Aromatherapy is part of holistic medicine. Holistic medicine doesn’t just look at the symptoms, but also the cause and prevention of illnesses. When you use pure therapeutic grade essential oils on a daily basis you are taking control of your health issues. You will be on your way to a happier healthier you.

In Essence: True aromatherapy can provide you with an innumerable number of health benefits. We must be aware of the synthetic oils available. They do not have the therapeutic value of pure essential oils. In most cases these synthetics are very inexpensive. As the old saying goes you get what you pay for.

Shop Smart: Compare prices! If you find 5 or 6 sites selling 2.5 ml. or approximately 1/8 oz of rose essential oil for 60 to 70 dollars and another site selling 10 ml. (a little under oz.) for less than $50.00 guess what. More than likely the rose priced under $50 is likely synthetic or has been already diluted with another oil. Be smart. Be safe.

Always remember, use only pure therapeutic grade essential oils for optimum results.

Pressure Point Aromatherapy Massage

Pressure Point Aromatherapy Massage

Pressure point aromatherapy massage has many benefits for people in this hectic world. The therapeutic properties of the essential oils are able to work their way directly into your body for immediate effect and the massage itself helps to work tension out of tired and sore muscles.

Also sometimes referred to as Shiatsu or acupressure massage, during a pressure point aromatherapy massage, the massage therapist will first apply a massage oil and then apply their fingers to pressure points located throughout the body. A pressure point aromatherapy massage is a holistic treatment, covering the whole body, and not focusing on any single area.

Recent studies have shown that massage is helpful in reducing blood pressure, increasing circulation, eliminating toxins and can improve sleep and relaxation. Pressure point aromatherapy massage is particularly good for stress or emotional related conditions.

Depending on your mood, and any conditions you are suffering from, different combinations of essential oils can be chosen to be used during a pressure point aromatherapy massage. You can request an energizing, revitalizing, relaxing or soothing combination, depending on what your particular needs are.

Before you have a pressure point aromatherapy massage, make sure that the therapist uses only therapeutic grade essential oils during the massage, and is aware of any conditions that you may be suffering from. It the therapist isn’t willing to tell you which oils they use, and doesn’t ask any questions before beginning the massage, you need to look for a more reputable therapist.

You also need to be comfortable with your pressure point aromatherapy massage therapist, as massaging the body is a very personal thing. Be sure to shop around, and not necessarily just making an appointment with the cheapest provider. You usually get what you pay for, and during a pressure point aromatherapy massage, you are entrusting your body to another person. You will get far more benefit from the massage if you are relaxed and comfortable with the person who is providing the massage service.

If any of the following currently apply, you should see your doctor before undergoing pressure point aromatherapy massage; you have just come out of surgery, you are prone to blood clots, you have just completed radiation or chemotherapy treatments or you are suffering from bruises or fractures.

When performed correctly, pressure point aromatherapy massage will provide you with many health benefits. By taking a whole body approach, pressure point aromatherapy massage works on both your mind and body, which is something we all need in this busy world.

Aromatherapy: Essential Oils to Jumpstart your Libido

How aromatherapy essential oils can jumpstart your libido.

Aromatherapy consists of using different aromas to affect a person’s mood or behaviour. In the practice of aromatherapy, each essential oil is believed to possess unique specific properties that positively affect different areas of a person’s life. Some are used to soothe physical ailments, while others can increase concentration, stamina or energy, and possibly jumpstart your libido. The use of aromatherapy essential oils in sexual practices and rituals has been around for centuries and spans many cultures. It is said that the famous seductress Cleopatra indulged in the practice of aromatherapy, using the intoxicating scents of cinnamon, cardamom and rose to bewitch and entice Marc Antony.

How to Use Aromatherapy Essential Oils

There are many ways to incorporate the benefits of aromatherapy into everyday life, and various methods of using essential oils. They can be applied to the skin, but must first be diluted with a carrier oil as they are too powerful in their undiluted form. You may prefer to inhale the oil scent by placing a few drops on a clean cloth or tissue and putting it near your nose, or you can use steam inhalation. It is also possible to put a few drops of oil diluted with a carrier oil in your bathwater. Just add your preferred scent to one ounce of carrier oil and mix well into the warm water. Aromatherapy essential oils can be added to lotions, massage oils, and shower products to help revitalize your mind and body, all the while providing you with a very sensual experience.

Carrier Oils

Aromatherapy essential oils must be "carried" onto the skin by carrier oils as they are too concentrated to be applied directly on the skin. Carrier oils are also known as base oils or vegetable oils.

Popular Carrier Oils

  • sweetalmond
  • grapeseed
  • jojoba
  • sunflower
  • avocado
  • olive oil

Scents to Raise the Libido

The use of aromatherapy essential oils can enhance almost any mood. A person’s sense of smell is tied to the area of emotion and memory in the brain; consequently, a particular pleasing scent can recreate wonderful feelings associated with a pleasurable past experience.

Spicy scents can definitely make an individual feel energized, while light floral scents can put you in a sensual and relaxed mood. The aromatherapy essential oils can be placed in a diffuser to create a seductive atmosphere in the room, used to perform a sensuous massage or blended in a warm bubble bath for two! There are hundreds of scents used in the practice of aromatherapy. Here are a few essential oils known to produce positive results in the area of love and sexual relations:

Rose – A deeply floral scent that is relaxing and known to promote compassion, love and sensuality.

Vanilla – A subtly sweet aroma that induces feelings of security, compassion and love.

Jasmine – A comforting scent that is warm and floral. Indian women use it in their hair to entice their husbands into love-making.

Ginger – A woody aroma that provides feelings of warmth when used in a massage, and is known to increase endurance. Many brides of South Asia use this oil in creams on their wedding day.

Clove – A spicy, rich and penetrating scent with warming properties which is intoxicating to the senses.

Cedarwood – An intensely woody aroma that has soothing and strengthening properties that promotes inner strength and confidence.

There are many study programs available to help teach your children good study habits. Most of these programs are excellent and deliver the results they claim. If you have your child enrolled in one of these programs, good for you! Help them even more by using essential oils on a daily basis.

Clear your mind. With all the social activities our kids can be involved with in school it is no wonder their minds are all full of clutter. At times they forget where they are and where they are going. An easy way to send your children off to school with a clear mind is to diffuse some essential oils into the air. There are a couple of different blends that are very effective at reducing mental clutter. Use equal amounts of juniper, pine and tea tree or celery, hyssop and lemon. I would recommend using a cold or forced air diffuser. Diffuse these essential oils for 10 to 15 minutes in the morning. This will help clear their minds and help them throughout their busy day. Cold air diffusers provide the greatest therapeutic value because they do not use heat to diffuse the oil.

Concentrate. Does your student have difficulty staying on task? The inability to concentrate is not uncommon with teens. There are so many distractions to overcome. The cute girl or guy that keeps flirting with them, what about their next class, did I pass that last test and what’s for lunch? If you have trouble concentrating try using these blends in your diffuser. Equal amounts of pine, black pepper and rosewood or eucalyptus, petitgrain and thyme. Should you need a little boost during the day, place about 4 or 5 drops of either blend on a handkerchief and take it out occasionally and inhale the aroma. This to will aid in maintaining your concentration levels.

Increased memory. Have you ever told your kids to remember to do something and five minutes later they have forgotten? No! Lucky you! Like most people teens have a selective memory and remember only what they want to. However there are times when they need to remember something and just can’t seem to do it. To assist you in increasing your memory powers try using this blend. Once again use equal amounts. Use marjoram, peppermint and sage. Diffuse this blend for 10 to 15 minutes in the morning you will be surprised at the amount of information you will be able to recall. Place 4 or 5 drops on a handkerchief for a boost throughout the day.

To sum it up. Developing good study habits in school has a major affect on our future success. Let therapeutic grade essential oils assist you in reaching your goals of being a better student. Essential oils will help reduce the amount of clutter in your brain giving you greater mental clarity. New to Essential Oils? Here’s Some Great Ways to Get Started

Getting your feet wet in therapeutic aromatherapy, beyond burning a scented candle or soaking with a pleasing pre-packaged bath salt blend, can be a little daunting to many people. All those little bottles of pricey liquids, electric contraptions, and fancy-sounding blends – how does one actually use essential oils to improve their health, happiness and well-being? It’s easier than one might think – getting started can open a whole new world of fun and effective natural remedies that can lift your mood, calm your nerves, and support healing of a great many common ailments. The trick, like beginning anything really, is just getting started. Start with some commonly used oils like Lavender and Tea Tree, and you’ll open up the doors to a whole realm of natural medicine for you and your family. Read on for an introduction to a few of the many ways of using these wonderful gifts from nature.

Aromatherapy really has a bad name in North America. Kinda soft and fuzzy, and maybe a little too ‘new age’ for many folks. But essential oils share many traits with other natural medicines; they’re really concentrated plant extracts that just happen to smell exceptionally good. ‘Volatile-Plant-Extract-Therapy’ would be a much more appropriate name. ‘Volatile’ simply means ‘easily evaporated’ – in this sense, essential oils are more like alcohol than oil. But unlike alcohol, essential oils are made up of very complex molecules that have a great breadth of healing properties. These properties vary greatly depending on the plant from which the oil was extracted. Many oils are known potent antibacterials, antivirals, anti-inflammates, and stimulate wound healing. Of course, their aroma’s DO have profound effects as well; laboratory studies have conclusively shown this in clinical settings. Inhalation is the simplest method of using essential oils, and is an excellent place to start with aromatherapy.

When inhaled, essential oils effect our limbic system, the seat of the brain’s emotional centers. Many oils have been found to sharpen concentration, reduce tension and anxiety, and even reduce depression. Blends can be made for very specific psychological and emotional needs. How can we reap these magnificent benefits? There are a few simple, cost-effective ways to prepare essential oils for inhalation and experience these wonderful effects: the ‘handkerchief method’, making your own ‘smelling salts’, and making your own aromatherapy ‘mister’. More advanced users will want to use a cold-air nebulizing diffuser that disperses a fine mist of essential oil throughout your environment. With a little research, you’ll be able to find the right oil or oil combination to suit your needs.

The handkerchief method is pretty straightforward – put a drop or two of an oil or blend on a tissue and inhale (careful with some oils though – peppermint, for example, can burn the sensitive skin around your nostrils if put in direct contact). You can even leave the tissue, handkerchief, or piece of cloth in a room or your workspace and the oil will continue to evaporate and have its effects. Making your own smelling salts is similar, and your preparation will last a while longer. To make the salts, fill a small vial with natural sea salt and drip essential oils into the salt. The amount of oil needn’t be precise – enough that there is detectable aroma, and not so much that the salt gets completely wet. Just unscrew the cap and inhale from the bottle whenever you need a lift, or, like the handkerchief, leave the vial open in your space, letting the aroma slowly fill the area. A mister can be used infuse a room with aroma – just add essential oils to water in a small spray bottle (10 drops per cup of water is a good starting point), shake before each use and spray! When you’re ready for a greater impact from the aromatic use of oils, find a quality cold-air nebulizing diffuser. These units make fine mist of oil, creating a significant concentration in your environment, and can have valuable health benefits beyond stimulating the smell sense – they can purify the air in your home or office, and can help with many infectious illnesses when used as directed by a health practitioner.

Here are a few easy recipes for the inhalation method: For uplifting the mood and brightening the mind – 4 parts of Rosemary, 3 parts of Lavender, 2 parts of Lemon and 1 part of Peppermint, OR 3 parts Clary Sage, 2 parts Bergamot and 1 part Sweet Orange. For calming anxiety – equal parts of Roman Chamomile, Bergamot and Orange, OR 3 parts Lavender, 2 parts Neroli and 1 part Bergamot. For creating a harmonious atmosphere – 3 parts Jasmine, 1 part Ylang Ylang and 1 part Sandalwood, OR equal parts Geranium, Patchouli and Bergamot. For simply bringing calm or inducing sound sleep, pure Lavender oil by itself may be perfect. These and other blends can make wonderful natural perfumes when diluted to 15% in Jojoba oil; Rose and Jasmine oils can be used this way by themselves.

Aromatherapy massage and topical application – Ideally, this is done with a partner, but self-massage will work as well. Creating your own massage oil is a straightforward process – just dilute 10 – 20 drops of essential oil (single or blended) per ounce of carrier oil. There are a variety of carrier oils available; Sweet Almond is a great all-around oil and is recommended for general aromatherapy massage. As for the massage, itself, any technique will do – let your intuition be your guide. The blends listed above will work effectively as massage oils as well, when diluted in a carrier, though here are a few more fun recipes: For a sensual massage, per ounce of carrier oil, add – 8 drops Sandalwood, 6 drops Rose, 4 drops Lavender and 2 drops Ylang Ylang. For opening the heart, try 4 drops Spikenard, 4 drops Lavender and 2 drops of Rose. Finally, for sheer relaxation, use 6 drops Lavender, 4 drops Neroli and 2 drops Bergamot. Note that topical application of citrus oils (Orange, Bergamot, Tangerine, Lemon, Lime, etc.) should be avoided on skin that will be exposed to direct sunlight in the following few days – these oils are known to be photo-sensitizing, and can make the skin more susceptible to burning by UV rays. The feet are excellent receivers of essential oil energy; this is the basis of reflexology. Many oils that can irritate sensitive skin elsewhere can be applied ‘neat’ (undiluted) to the bottoms of the feet; the tops of the feet are more sensitive, though this area will also have significant energetic results.

Don’t be afraid to create your own blends! You will certainly find particular oils that you enjoy – and aromatherapy is like that. It is the oils you find most enjoyable that are likely those that are most effective for you. An important starting note is to change the ratios of oils you are blending very slowly. Start with one drop of each oil in a small vial, mixing them and allowing a few minutes for them to blend before adding more oil 1 drop at a time. In general, citrus oils (Orange, Bergamot, Tangerine, Lemon, Lime) tend to bring alertness while calming at the same time. Herb oils (Peppermint, Rosemary and Basil) tend to be invigorating, while floral oils tend to be relaxing (Lavender, Chamomile, Jasmine, Neroli). This is only a guideline – many oils have complex properties and will affect individuals differently – use your nose as a guide.

Medical aromatherapy, the use of essential oils to treat specific medical conditions, requires a bit more knowledge in many cases. There are a few excellent examples of employing oils for common needs: Lavender works very well for minor burns; it is anti-inflammatory and helps the skin regenerate. Blended half and half with Tea Tree, it can be used in place of other antibacterial agents on small cuts and scrapes. Helichrysum italicum oil is a remarkable healer of bruises and sports injuries; it can be used undiluted or at a 5-10% dilution in Hazelnut oil. Melissa oil is documented as an excellent treatment for the herpes virus. For support for common colds, inhale equal parts Lavender, Rosemary and Eucalyptus. For support in clearing chest and sinus conditions, use Lavender, Tea Tree and Eucalyptus. These blends can be added to a carrier oil and rubbed into the chest, inhaled from a steaming bowl of water (with the eyes closed!) or used in a diffuser. The greatest promise for medical essential oil use lies in their profound ability to eradicate bacteria and viruses – this is where the need of an experienced professional arises, however. As with any medication, matching the correct oil and it’s application with the illness is critical, otherwise the oil may have no effect, and the patient may not heal. When done properly, however, remarkable results have been achieved.

Most aromatherapy practitioners suggest mixing the above oils with Jojoba vegetable oil before applying to skin. Usually, a cotton pad is used to deliver the blend directly to the acne spot.

These essential oils have been proved to stop the growth of a broad range of bacteria and microbes which cause acne. The have remarkable antiseptic and antimicrobial properties, they clear and unclog pores, heal scars and generally help to remove acne spots contributing to a fresh and supple skin. As mentioned before, jojoba is the one of the best carrier oil for dilution because it is not greasy, so it does not block the pores, but it moisturizes and exfoliates the skin.

Keep in mind that aromatherapy treatment for acne, although its indisputable success in cure acne, it can not have immediate results and take some time to initiate healing. Therefore, you have to be patient and it is advisable to follow some every day tips in order to enhance the healing.

  • Avoid harsh facial lotion with alcohol.
  • Do not scrub your pimples, spots or scars.
  • Adopt a healthy life style. Eat healthily, learn stress management techniques and stay away from pollution.
  • Wash your face regularly with much water. This will help you to get rid of skin waste toxins.
  • Do not use facials more than twice a day, because this can have the opposite results than those desired.

At last, if you search on internet you will find several aromatherapy recipes for acne but it is not wise to try any of them before consulting your aromatherapy practitioner. Otherwise you take the risk to have unwanted side effects like skin irritation or flaking.

Getting Scentsable

Getting Scentsable

There are scents all around us from bouquets of flowers and pine forest to those we try to blame on the dog. However, those aromas we blame on the dog have absolutely no therapeutic benefit so we will concentrate on those scents we obtain from plant life called essential oils.
There are many fragrances that affect our lives on a daily basis wether we are aware of it or not. The smell of flowers on a warm spring day will make us feel great. Especially after a long cold winter. The smell of pumpkin pie baking in the oven for desert on Thanksgiving day. This causes us to anticipate desert over the main meal.
We smell so many different things through out the day that we take many of them for granted
We could just memorize a list of scents for treating certain ailments. However, aren’t you the least bit curious as to why they work. I know I am!

Discovery: Discovering what creates a plants aroma is the best place to start when learning about aromatherapy. When we learn more about scents we can begin to understand why they are so useful in therapy.
Essential oils are what create a plants scent. These special oils are produced naturally in the plant and are held in special glands. Any plant that has a scent contains essential oils. These plants all have their own distinctive aromas due to their essential oils.

Consistency: The molecules in an essential oil are extremely tiny. Essential oils are much thinner than vegetable oil or motor oil. This is why they are so useful in therapy. The thin molecular structure of essential oil is why they can penetrate the skin. They then go right to work on the area being treated.
We often refer to them as volatile oils. This means they are vaporous or like gas. A 15ml. bottle of essential oil will evaporate in a short amount of time if left open setting on your kitchen counter. A pure essential oil will not leave an oily stain on cloth because it dissipates quickly.

Production: Essential oils are produced in special scent glands within the plant. These glands are predominantly in the leaves and flowers. However, They can be found most anywhere in the plant.
Botanist did not know why plants contained essential oils for a long time. They now understand these oils have an important role in the plants development. These essential oils attract bees and other pollinators, seal a plants wounds, repel harmful insects, kill bacterial, viral and fungal infections, make a plant waterproof, repel other plants to avoid overcrowding of space, increase immunity to disease and possibly influence reproduction as plant hormones.

Uses: People and plants alike can utilize the value of essential oils for more than just scent. We have the ability to treat all manner of physical and emotional issues with essential oils. Some of the most important medicinal benefits we obtain using these oils are. Kill bacterial, viral and fungal infections, heal wounds, reduce inflammation, aid in blood circulation and digestion, decrease sinus and lung congestion, repel insects, tone and moisturize skin, regulate hormones, stimulate immune system, attract a mate and possibly influence reproduction.

End Result: Ironically enough essential oils function about the same in people as they do in plants. Many essential oils are highly antiseptic and have the ability to kill harmful micro organisms such as bacterial and viral infections. Essential oils also have the ability to reduce inflamation, which in turn can reduce or eliminate pain. Some essential oils stimulate cell regeneration, which encourages wounds to heal at a much faster rate.
